Internet Connection in Thailand Internet in Thailand This is just a short snippet of information for the foreigner living in Thailand who has, or is getting, an Internet connection at home. It is worth understanding that the bandwidth connecting Thailand to the rest of the world is abysmal. For some reason the people responsible for the international gateway are very slow at upgrading the links. At peak times connecting to international websites is like it was in the days of the 14.4k dial up connection ! This can be for hours at a time. The various internet service providers also limit traffic on various ports. So at times voice over internet protocol (VOIP) traffic, file transfer protocol traffic etc is severely disrupted. So, if you are going to get an internet connection at home do not waste your money with a 4mB or 6mB package. All that will give you is a good connection within Thailand. A 1mB or 2mB package is all you need, as your 'international' connection speed will not warrant a higher priced package.
