Collecting the Victor Book for Boys
The Victor Book for Boys was first published in the UK in 1964 by DC Thompson Co Ltd. It was the annual publication supplementing the already sucessful Victor Comic. The comic and annual started out with stories about the exploits of various people in the Second World War - both factual and fictional, and caught the attention of thousands of youngsters in and outside the UK. Characters like Matt Braddock, becoming famous ! I was an avid reader of both the comic and the annual publication. There were 31 editions of the Victor Book for Boys, the last being published in 1994. As with a lot of similar pulications that have ceased publication they become collectors items. That is certainly the case for the Victor Book for Boys. The earlier editions, if they are in good condition ( or better), can command prices exceeding 50 GBP. However, getting hold of such copies is relatively difficult, unless of course, you have a lot of money available ! The value of these books can only go up in the longer term - a collecton of The Victor Book for Boys is both an investment and a great read ! |
